Congressional Candidate Barb Davis White, FairTax, Keith Ellison and more…
Business as Usual?
Ask yourself, “Do I really want change?” Barb Davis White is a Conservative candidate running for congress against Keith Ellison. Most African Americans in Minneapolis say, “We’re voting for Keith”, with no rhyme or reason. We stand in opposition against a giant that has lost his shadow. Keith Ellison may have gripped the voters of Minnesota during the last election, but surveys show that the people of Minnesota are asking for a different choice in Congress. Barb Davis White stands, not in opposition of the Democratic Party, but with the people of the 5th Congressional District. Her beliefs are simple and clear. I understand that you are thoroughly entrenched in Ellison, but the predominate word during this election season is ‘change’
Let me explain something to you…Keith is not your friend. In July 2008 Congressman Keith Ellison was a co-sponsor of HR 3298 which asks for Mental Health screening for 3 year olds (the PRE-K Act)…Do you see something wrong with this as a parent? How can a Black man want the government to regulate what a 3 year old does? There’s something very wrong with this. Could this be the start of the University of Minnesota’s North Side Partnership and the Urban Research and Outreach Center’s move into North Minneapolis with the collaboration of the Ellison’s camp to assist the education giant in the further disassembly and research of poor communities?
Secondly, Keith does not agree with FairTax (www.fairtax.org). If you don’t know what FairTax is, just look at your pay check. Imagine if you had no taxes taken out of your check?
The FairTax plan is a comprehensive proposal that replaces all federal income and payroll based taxes with an integrated approach including a progressive national retail sales tax, a prebate to ensure no American pays federal taxes on spending up to the poverty level, dollar-for-dollar federal revenue neutrality, and, through companion legislation, the repeal of the 16th Amendment.
The FairTax Act (HR 25, S 1025) is nonpartisan legislation. It abolishes all federal personal and corporate income taxes, gift, estate, capital gains, alternative minimum, Social Security, Medicare, and self-employment taxes and replaces them with one simple, visible, federal retail sales tax administered primarily by existing state sales tax authorities.
The FairTax taxes us only on what we choose to spend on new goods or services, not on what we earn. The FairTax is a fair, efficient, transparent, and intelligent solution to the frustration and inequity of our current tax system.
In a letter to IBNN a concerned citizen wrote: Keith Ellison’s office lied to me, saying the congressman would vote against the measure. I later received a written response from Rep. Ellison, saying he would not vote for the bailout unless four stipulations were met:
- Serious and meaningful Congressional oversight over the Treasury Department as a rescue plan is implemented
- Hold business leaders accountable through restricting executive compensation and investigating possible wrongdoing
- If taxpayers are being asked to bear the risk of these “toxic” investments, then taxpayers should reap some of the potential future financial benefits yielded by this government intervention
- Any financial package must include assistance to families facing home mortgage foreclosures
Keith Ellison voted for the bailout, so I assume those four stipulations were met. Can anyone confirm or deny whether these stipulations were included in the Pelosi Compromise?
See the roll-call vote for yourself here: http://www.freeople.com/blog/house-roll-call-bailout-package-vote-released/1788
We just touched on a couple of items that show Congressman Ellison should re-think what he’s doing – on his own time.
4 Reasons Why Congressman Keith Hakim Ellison Must Go!
Something is brewing in the United States of America. Since the Independent Business News Network did not author any of the following news and information, we’ll let you decide if Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District should be led by someone who for the most part if elected in November will “Twist your world”.

Underage Drinking, No ID Check and City Connections Lead to the Untimely Death of 19 Year Old at Blondie’s in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota
The Independent Business News Network received this email from Mr. Boyd Morson from the Central District City Council on Friday, September 26, 2008. After further research it comes to our attention that Brooklyn Park, Minnesota is a “Free State of Welfare” with the number of Section 8 Vouchers given to young Black mothers, no jobs, no economic stimuli and a breeding ground for gang violence. With the hiring of the first Black Chief of Police of Brooklyn Park, Mr. Michael Anthony Davis and the lack of actions taken by Mayor Lampi, what political favors have been done to let an establishment that is notorious for underage drinking, drugs and violence still be open? Is it “hands tied when it comes to Blondie’s or mum’s the word? City leadership is to blame and the citizens of Brooklyn Park must demand “change” within the City of Brooklyn Park now.
Mr. Boyd Morson tends to think it should stop here! And he writes….
As a candidate for Brooklyn Park Central District City Council, the first African American, to ever make it past the primaries, in the history of Brooklyn Park. I urgently call your attention to this link; liberianjournal.com for immediate review and prompt reporting from your media outlet… with regards to this unfortunate and untimely shooting of Romel Jones, 19, Wednesday Sept. 24th at Blondie’s. Romel, just recently moved to BP. It’s the continuous, lack of accountability from our current City leadership (good-old-boys network) that eventually led to this unfortunate incident, by not taking action, against Blondie’s. (Who must have connection within the city?) However they took unwanted action, against the taxpayers voting-not to tear down Huntington Pointe, and they displaced those families, whereby the city alleges receiving numerous complaints, and as a result they took action… action lead by the incumbent but, he and council together failed to take action, against Blondie’s! They’ve actually approved their liquor license year after year.
A press conference was called on Wednesday but, the family was not informed and/or invited. They’re outraged about this and want Blondie’s shut down and/or held accountable, finally, listen to Mayor Lampi’s response, when asked about holding them accountable. I will be meeting with the family of the victim on tomorrow. Plans for other community efforts are being organized for Monday, each of you will be contacted again with that information… however, your coverage of this story is hugely and vitally important to helping the many great residents to; reclaim, reshape, reinvest and rebuild Brooklyn Park. Your coverage will also shed some behind the scene politicking (privileges) that goes on for some people in the community, by the current Central District Councilman, who has been on council since 1996, and have taken no action and/or very little action after receiving almost 600 complaints about Blondie’s, recorded by the BPPD since 2006 alone.
I am respectfully calling upon each of you to take a proactive step in working with me to proactively engage, include and involve all stakeholders in the process, including the diverse population and the social and economically challenged and undeserved, and by also working to hold our city officials accountable, for being a part of the negative images that plagues our community and for not readily and proactively addressing the true realities, struggles, challenges and concerns that we face here in BP. Including the Mayors, drunk driving episode early this year, that also resulted in him hitting a park car and leaving the scene of an accident. What happen to these charges? And finally the city-Code Enforcement department have been going out and collecting my signs and no others. They’ve alleged that they only received complaints about my signs. I won’t say that my signs weren’t improperly placed, but, if they are adjacent to other signs, they would appear to be improper as well, but no action and/or complaints has been taken against them.
I can make a difference but, together we can make a world of a difference right here in Brooklyn Park! I need you to help me introduce “a voice of hope and change” in the way the city will do business in the future. A way that includes, involves, engages all stakeholders in the process fairly and equally. Which also includes and involves using all the available diverse media outlets to proactively reach out to your audiences, and include them too in the process?
Keith Ellison on Obama, “He’s a Citizen of the World”…How about being a Citizen of the United States?
In an exclusive broadcast for the Al Jazeera website, Riz Khan spoke to US congressman Keith Ellison before Barack Obama’s historic speech about why Obama would make an ideal president.
Keith Ellison has lost site. The needs of Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District are changing daily. The 136,000+ people that got him into office need to ask some very important questions like; what the hell are you on Al Jazeera Television talking about why Obama would make a great President?
Secondly, is this the start of creating Sharia Law? Please read the following information about what the definition of Sharia Law is and why we can’t have this law applied in the United States of America. Furthermore – the people of Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District must re-think Keith Maurice Ellison!
Sharia Law – (Arabic: ????? transliteration: Šar??ah) is the body of Islamic religious law. The term means “way” or “path to the water source”; it is the legal framework within which the public and private aspects of life are regulated for those living in a legal system based on Islamic principles of jurisprudence and for Muslims living outside the domain. Sharia deals with many aspects of day-to-day life, including politics, economics, banking, business, contracts, family, sexuality, hygiene, and social issues.
There is no strictly static set of laws of sharia. Sharia is more of a system of how law ought to serve humanity, a consensus of the unified spirit, based on the Qur’an (the religious text of Islam), hadith (sayings and doings of Muhammad and his companions), Ijma (consensus), Qiyas (reasoning by analogy) and centuries of debate, interpretation and precedent.
Before the 19th century, legal theory was considered the domain of the traditional legal schools of thought. Most Sunni Muslims follow Hanafi, Hanbali, Maliki or Shafii, while most Shia Muslims follow the jaafari school of thought and are considered Twelvers. Islamic law is now the most widely used religious law, and one of the three most common legal systems of the world alongside common law and civil law. During the Islamic Golden Age, classical Islamic law had a fairly significant influence on the development of common law and also influenced the development of several civil law institutions.
I expect some people will not understand what this article is about – but if you are “one” who “understands”, we as Americans need to take a closer look at the people we have in our Government.
The Dumbing Down of Inner Cities and America by the Democratic Party of the United States, Somethings Missing and they’re not telling “US”
The United States of America is the best place in the World to live, if you ask someone from another country. The inner cities in the United States are a different story. For 40 years, the Democratic infrastructure has systematically turned a country of “We the People” to “Us the Hopeless and Dependent”.
This became more apparent when I received this email from the Chairman of the National Black Republican Party Ms. Frances Rice. There are many ways to comprehend her message, but I’ll let the readers decide.
It reads as follows:
“I wonder if the Independent Business News Network is going to also produce installments exposing the racist past and failed socialism of the Democratic Party that has caused so much harm to blacks.
Will we see an expose about the fact that Democrats have been running our inner-cities for the past 40 years, and the socialist policies of the Democrats have turned those communities into economic and social wastelands? Will there be questions about why blacks continue to vote for Democrats and, incredibly, blame Republicans for the deplorable conditions in black communities created by the Democrats?
How soon will we see a condemnation of the Democrats for their consistent denigration of black Republicans, including Dr. Condoleezza Rice, Justice Clarence Thomas, Gen. Colin Powell, former Lt. Gov. Michael Steele and all other black Republicans who dare to run for public office? In the writings about the so-called “disparities” within the Republican Party–with a focus on the black Republicans running in Georgia, Illinois, Florida and Minneapolis–will there be interviews with blacks in those districts that trash those candidates as “sellouts”, “Uncle Toms” and “traitors” to their race, while refusing to vote for them?
Will there be a focus on the fact that the Democratic Party has hijacked the civil rights record of the Republican Party and wrongly convinced blacks that the Republican Party is a racist party, causing most blacks to turn away from the Republican Party? Will there be any attention paid to the fact that; in the face of how the Democrats have demonized the Republican Party, people have the gall to blame the Republican Party for there being so few blacks who identify with the Republican Party?
In my opinion, if the Independent Business News Network is truly interested in focusing on “Being Black and Republican in the USA,” then included would be information about the party that is truly making it a living hell to be a black Republican — the Democratic Party.”

In further researching and already understanding this issue, I would like to share some facts with you.
When the Republican Party was created, the two major parties in the United States were the Democratic Party (the Democratic Party with its pro slavery agenda and its terrorist arm the KKK) and the Whig Party. The Republican Party was created in 1854 in opposition to the Kansas-Nebraska Act that would have allowed the expansion of slavery into Kansas. The Republican activists denounced the act as proof of the power of the Slave Power—the powerful class of southern slaveholders who were conspiring to control the federal government and to spread slavery nationwide. The name “Republican” gained such favor in 1854 because “republicanism” was the paramount political value the new party meant to uphold. Besides opposition to slavery, the new party put forward a progressive vision of modernizing the United States—emphasizing higher education, banking, railroads, industry and cities, while promising free homesteads to farmers.
The election of Abraham Lincoln in 1860 ended the domination of the fragile coalition of pro-slavery southern Democrats and conciliatory northern Democrats which had existed since the days of Andrew Jackson. Instead, a new era of Republican dominance based in the industrial and agricultural north ensued. Republicans still often refer to their party as the “party of Lincoln” in honor of the first Republican President.
Today in 2008 if a Black man or woman says that they are Republicans – the responses echo from being a “Sellout” or an “Uncle Tom”. But let’s look at this a little closer.
Today’s society and the inner cities have become a “welfare state”. The Democratic Party and its leaders have ventured off from the focus of education, employment and business to a focus of “don’t worry; you can get a check each month”. In my city – Minneapolis (north), Minnesota there has not been a business sustained or created in the last 40 years that employee 50 Blacks, Asians, Hispanic-Latinos, Native or Somali. Furthermore, in one area of north Minneapolis there are 178+ non-profits doing business (including parks and churches) that have let good programs like the African American Men Project, meant to assist inner city Black men 18-34 to gain employment, education, wealth and independence has become a referral service to other social service agencies. A program failure; continually funded by the county and Democratic elected officials.
If this is all the Democrats can offer the inner city, someone needs to wake up – start asking questions and make the necessary changes because just like we hire them, “We the People” can fire them. This is the first step of restoring America.
As far as being Black and Republican – Those of you ( Black Republicans) that have media outlets should use your time wisely by distributing information to the disenfranchised communities about what it is to be Black, with different views. Like I’ve done here.

July 17, 2008
Two bills which recently passed the U.S. House Education and Labor Committee and are headed for floor debate clearly illustrate the insatiable appetite that the radicals in charge of Congress have for control over the hearts and minds of our nation’s youngest children. HR 3289, the Providing Resources Early for Kids Act of 2008 (PRE-K Act), puts the federal government in charge of what children will learn in preschool programs. HR 2343, the Education Begins at Home Act, sets up invasive home visiting programs.
These bills put the government in control as both parent and educator for children from birth to age 5. Both focus on poor families who have the least wherewithal to resist this government intrusion, but they also extend to military families. The home visiting bill calls for developmental screening, which includes mental screening, and the Pre-K Act promotes mental screening of all the children and their families in these programs. And of course, parental consent, choice, and control are never mentioned for any aspect of these bills.
The Pre-K Act and its focus on the mental screening of young children is ironic from at least two standpoints. First, despite claims of its proponents, early childhood programs are not effective and several studies have shown evidence of academic and or emotional harm. For instance, illiteracy rates have actually increased in New Jersey where preschool for poor children was court ordered. And, data from several national studies and surveys performed by the federal government have shown very significant increases in defiant, disobedient, and aggressive behavior, as well as impaired social skills in children who are attend preschool and child care compared to children raised at home.
So, it appears that rather than improving academic and social skills, preschool programs are actually creating the problems they purport to be fixing. These programs don’t help children, but instead create permanent employment for mental health professionals and increased profits for the pharmaceutical industry for the myriad harmful and ineffective psychotropic drugs that are being prescribed to children at alarmingly younger ages.
Now, as is happening in Minnesota and states around the nation, these subjective screening results are going into children’s records, falsely labeling them as academically, socially, or mentally defective even before they begin their academic careers. This has the potential of affecting college, military service and employment and expanding the rolls of the overburdened special education system and government control in the schools.
The second irony is that while Congress is promoting increased mental screening of young children, at least one member of New Freedom Commission, the group that first started publicly promoting the unscientific and dangerous idea of mentally screening young children, is having second thoughts. Dr. Daniel Fisher stated in a letter to the Boston Globe dated 10/3/07:
However, screening Medicaid-covered children for mental illness is not the answer. In fact, this approach has been rejected by Congress. A superficial screening by overworked pediatricians would likely result in many false positives with devastating consequences for the children and their families. These quick-fix screening tests invariably end up with quick fixes of kids by labeling them and placing them on medication, without a comprehensive psychosocial evaluation and assistance to the children and their interpersonal environment. As a psychiatrist who has evaluated children in schools, I know that myriad factors can cause what appear to be symptoms of mental illness.
Dr. Fisher is totally correct about the high number of false positives in mental screening tests. One commonly used screening instrument has a 73% false positive rating, meaning that for every 27 children supposedly correctly identified as having an emotional problem on this screening test that follow admittedly “subjective” criteria that are “value judgments based on culture” according to the Surgeon General, 73 other families are falsely told that something is wrong with their child and referred for further evaluation and treatment which more and more commonly involves ineffective and sometimes lethally dangerous drugs.
It is too bad that members of the new Freedom Commission are not seeing the dangers and problems of home visiting programs they promoted in their report and that are laid out in the Education Begins at Home Act. National studies in 1999, 2004, and 2005 showed that home visiting programs did nothing to decrease child abuse rates.
The 1999 study had services costing up to $47,000 per family in 1999 dollars and doing nothing to improve the cognitive development of the children. Studies of the model home visiting program touted in the New Freedom Commission report, the Nurse Family Partnership, while showing some improvement in maternal behavior towards their babies, actually showed no improvement in any of the following parameters:
- “Children’s behavior problems” or “emotional regulation”
- “Maternal-child interaction”
- “Children’s mental development”
- “Maternal educational achievement or employment”
In addition, concerns have been raised about all of the following:
- Consent for medical record review of the families
- Data collection
- Consent for participation and potential coercion with loss of their children or loss of services
- Poor training of the visitors
- Unscientific or biased information presented to families
- The duplicitous role of the home visitor as both a helper and a mandated child abuse reporter
- Loss of fourth amendment protections.
For a detailed discussion of the many problems with home visiting programs, please see Dr. Karen Effrem’s written testimony to Congress about this bill.
Finally, this bill also gives grants to “train” (i.e. indoctrinate) new parents in the hospital with the government’s view of proper parenting. These includes getting babies into government early childhood programs as soon as possible. The attitudes, values, and beliefs of the children can then be shaped by the government’s view of issues such as feminism, gender and gender identity, multiculturalism, environmentalism and careers and as discussed above, may actually lead to emotional and academic problems.
Parents, even low-income parents, and certainly not our military families, do not need the government to visit their homes to tell them how to raise their children or to tell them what their children should be taught before entering kindergarten. Government should limit itself to promoting two parent families which is the greatest, most effective mental health and social program available. Taxing families less would allow families to afford to have one parent at home to raise the children. Increasing the domestic supplies of oil would keep food and fuel affordable for families.
HR 3289 and HR 2343 are two examples among many as to why congressional approval ratings have dropped to single digits in the last two years

Hometown profile: Mr. Eric Franzen (MN) is seeking office for the State House 60A in Minneapolis
Below, in his own words is what he (Eric) would like you to know about him and the issues that concern the people of Minneapolis.
Introducing Mr. Eric Franzen….
The biggest reason for the perpetual pessimism is the insanity of using the same solution over and over: more bureaucracy through more taxes. Government is a servant to the people, ensuring our security and assisting with infrastructure. Through the free markets, the best answers can be found. These are the principles that underlie how I believe policies should be directed. From schools to energy to healthcare, government is not the solution. Vote Franzen in 08 to take the power out of St. Paul and back to you.
Lift the Minnesota moratorium on nuclear power plants; Advocate more oil exploration in the nation and right here in the Midwest; Confront the realities of the heavily subsidized market of biofuels; Media hype should not drive economic policy: i.e. ‘Going Green’
From the Party of Abraham Lincoln – Introducing Mr. Antoine Members, Congressional Candidate for Chicago’s 1st CD
The Independent Business News Network, in cooperation with the 5 African American Congressional Candidates running for Congress in 2008 will be keeping a close watch on congressional races in Georgia, Illinois, Florida and Minneapolis. These 5 candidates are running on the Republican ticket. We have found many “disparities” within the Republican Party as it pertains to Blacks and hope to deliver messages and information across the United States about issues and concerns. This installment will be the first of many focusing on “Being Black and Republican in the USA”.
About Antoine Members:
I’m a lifelong resident of Chicago, born and raised on the Westside and now residing on the Southside. A family man, I am married to my beautiful wife, Tònia, and have two wonderful children, Destiny and Journey. Academically, I am a graduate of CVS High School and have attended East-West University.
Professionally, I worked for several years at a medical clinic and hospital that serviced an underserved Westside community. I currently serve as a Sheriff Deputy for the Cook County Department of Corrections, where I recently celebrated my 3rd year of service. My faith has been shaped through growing up at Englewood Church of God, where I later became an Associate Minister. I am now a long time member of Living Word Christian Center.
Why I’m running
I am running because the good people of the 1st district need employment, protection, and opportunities. The people we have continually selected to represent our concerns have only represented themselves by creating legislation that benefits the special interest groups they have indebted themselves to. The problems our district continues to face have not been dealt with. If we continue on this path of electing politicians that do nothing for our communities, we will continue to receive the same results.
For the past 16 years, many of our children have not learned to read, and many have fallen far behind their appropriate grade levels. These educational challenges have lead to discouragement and exorbitant school dropout. For the past 16 years, jobs in our district have drastically decreased, and constructive activities to empower youth after school, on weekends and during the summer have disappeared. It is time to leave the past 16 years of job loss, increased violence, and lack of opportunities behind us. I want to create opportunities for small, mid-size, and large businesses to operate in our district because too many of our jobs are being shipped overseas causing fellow Americans to be out of work.
I want to crack down on the practice of illegal immigrants finding work while our ex-offender population is repeatedly denied work, forcing most of them to resort back to a life of crime.
It is time for a transition from our complacent officials of 16 years that have promised to do the job, but have failed to deliver year after year. All these reasons have inspired me and that is why I am running for Congress. For more information, visit Antoine’s website at www.antoinemembers.com.

IBNN’s first installment comes from Dr. Deborah Honeycutt, running for Congress in Georgia’s 13 Congressional District. IBNN will post items written by the candidate that are appropriate to IBNN’s topic.
Dr. Honeycutt writes….“Righteous Anger”

Clayton County citizens deserve a better school system and quality of life than they are currently experiencing. The leadership of current elected officials has not produced the desired results; consequently, they need to immediately withdraw from the public arena. The time for press release and public relations excuses is over.

Dr. Deborah Honeycutt is running for the United States Congress in Georgia’s 13th Congressional District. In her words, she says, “I’m running for U.S. Congress in 2008. I believe that our United States government is facing a moral crisis. As a country we are in danger of forsaking the moral cornerstone upon which our nation was founded.
