Introducing Mr. Yoman Brunson.

Yoman Brunson (R) is challenging incumbent Willie Dominguez (D) and National Association of Minority Contractors Executive Director and Stairstep Foundation Employee, Bobby-Jo Champion – DFL endorsed.

Yoman Brunson (R) officially filed for office to seek election to the Minnesota House of Representatives, representing citizen’s in House District 58B, which is in Minneapolis.

The 25-year-old candidate has already been endorsed by the Republican Party of Minnesota, and says he is not deterred by the opposition or his young age.

“Many say representing the Republican Party as a young African American will be challenging, but I see this as an opportunity for change. I will not back down from any candidate, nor will I back out of this race. For the past 60 years, 58B has been under the same leadership, and our district experiences the same problems each year. Without viable solutions, we will continue to experience the same problems of the past.”

Brunson is running on the platform of education, public safety, and increased community involvement; and chose these issues because they were consistently at the top of the list as main concerns for district residents.

“We have to be more efficient when spending valuable tax dollars to ensure district 58B students from all economic backgrounds receive the best education. The majority of violent crimes that occurred in 2006 in Minnesota have been on the North Side. Residents have the right to feel safe in their homes, streets and parks. We must ensure the residents are aware of the resources available to our community. By working together with community leaders, advocacy groups, and the residents of 58B, we will finally change the problems residents have been facing for far too long. I look forward to working with the community to bring about this viable change.”

Brunson is a board member of the Harrison Neighborhood Association, and remains active in the community.

Brunson is completing his undergraduate studies this summer and will earn an undergraduate degree in political science and communication studies from the University of Minnesota. House District 58B encompasses the neighborhoods: Near North, Downtown West and the North Loop, Harrison, Jordan, Willard-Hay, and Hawthorne.
