CPED (Community Planning and Economic Development) Pulling Compliance numbers out of the air
“In the United States when Black people were slaves on the cotton fields in states like Mississippi, the minority hiring goal was met and exceeded 100%. Today in the strawberry and grape fields of California, they are 100% in compliance hiring minorities.”
Could the City of Minneapolis be in compliance by 62% as stated in this video with Mike Christenson, Director of CPED (Community Planning and Economic Development)?
“Yes, some of us were born last night, but we stayed up all night.”
In a story last month on IBNN, former Civil Rights Commission Chairman Ken Brown sent an email to Minneapolis City Council’s Scott Benson (Ward 11) asking why a Disparity Report had not been commissioned by the city since 1997.
Brown states, “The failure to have on hand an updated Disparity Report, the City of Minneapolis categorically denies minorities from gaining access to jobs and other opportunities, and it’s clear to me that they don’t care. Minneapolis’ Community Planning and Economic Development branch (CPED) is allowed to “side-step” the Civil Rights ordinances.
Of course, since Browns e-mail, he has been removed as Commission Chairman…Oops.
(Read more compressive facts from The Minneapolis Story about the City of Minneapolis failing to embark on a Disparity Study.)
Listen and watch this video very closely. The tongue-in-cheek response by CPED’s director Mike Christenson should let you know the City of Minneapolis; CPED could give a hoot about compliance – “that’s our argument.”
This video was filmed at the National Association of Minority (NAMC) meeting held on Thursday, November 5, 2009 at Heritage Park community room.
The NAMC is not fooled.
