Negros not welcomed at Boom Island for the 2009 Juneteenth Celebration – IBNN Exclusive

In breaking news IBNN sources close to the Twin Cities 2009 Juneteenth Celebration say the organization has been rejected from having its event at Boom Island this year as planned. After careful planning by the Twin Cities Juneteenth committee, the City of Minneapolis has rejected the events 2009 planned location.
On Monday, May 4, 2009 a meeting was held with the Minneapolis Park Police, 3rd and 4th Minneapolis Police Precincts and members of the Minneapolis Park Board to inform Juneteenth organizers that this year’s event had been rejected from the inner city location of Boom Island.
Mary Pargo, Executive Director of the Twin Cities Juneteenth Celebration said in an exclusive interview, “We were the last to find out about the decision to not let this celebration take place at Boom Island. We had planned this down to the wire and spent dollars to insure we sent the right message to the Twin Cities community. Now we have to start all over.”
Ms. Pargo says the Juneteenth Celebration will move back to Wirth Park.
Again the City of Minneapolis and political pundits deal the Black community a bad hand by obstructing open community engagement. This is further evidence of Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak’s “Massa-Plan” to dismantle the Black community by strategically blocking community events and reducing funding for these engagements that come too close to the White mainstream in downtown Minneapolis.
If you recall, page 36 of the Minneapolis Mayor’s 2009 Supplemental Budget it states the following:
“The reductions, in the budget areas specified, will have the general impact of reducing the level of visibility of the Department of Civil Rights. For example, presence at certain annual, community events, such as the Urban League Family Day or Juneteenth will be reduced. Secondly, participation at such events as the Urban League Annual Meeting, the Minnesota Justice Foundation annual meeting and the Minnesota Bar Association annual meeting, Employment Bar Division, will be reduced. Third, advertising support in community newspapers (e.g. Minnesota Spokesman, Insight News and Asian Papers), which was primarily for the purpose of communicating hiring opportunities will be reduced. Fourth, partnering with community agencies and/or other governmental agencies to conduct training sessions or other community building opportunities would be severally curtailed. An example of such an opportunity would be the recently canceled schedule of activities, hosted by Minneapolis and Hennepin County, for Black History Month.”
In the mayor’s plan there is no mention of reducing city spending for mainstream events like the Minneapolis Aquatennial, Oktoberfest, Holidazzle and other non-ethnic based events, but yet the Black community is “stepped” on by this socialist Democratic city infrastructure with a 1955 Jim Crow mentality.
Why does it happen?
Mayor R.T. Rybak and city official have the Black community in Minneapolis trained! They know which self-appointed leaders to throw a “ham,” which will make this situation quiet and go away. You will not read about this in any north Minneapolis based newspaper, “self-appointed” Black leaders will be absolutely quiet – not a word of discussion, no protest, no call to action to stop this de-tooling of the Black community. In some cases, it’s our own fault for giving power the wrong Black folks.
For example, turn a camera on or let there be some dollars on the table, watch who shows up to play! (Coming soon: “The North Minneapolis 7″)
The days of Jim Crow live strong in the City of Minneapolis…in 2009.

YES I AM VERY ANGRY!!! I AM SO SICK OF EVIL, UNHAPPY PEOPLE IN THESE SO-CALLED UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, I COULD THROUGH-UP DAILY!!!! ENOUGH IS ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!!! IN MY OPINION, THESE VERY SICK, UNHAPPY NO-LIFE HAVING, MISERABLE PEOPLE. JUST DON’T GET IT!!! THEY ARE NOT, AND WILL NOT EVER BE SUPERIOR TO ANY OTHER LIVING BEING THAT GOD HAS CREATED!!! NEVER!! EVER!!! NEVER!!! NO MATTER WHAT THEIR VERY SICK MINDS CARE TO THINK OR BELIEVE!!!! WE GET IT, THAT MOST WHITE PEOPLE HATE BLACK PEOPLE. WE REALLY DO GET IT!!! ATLEAST I DO.. AND IM OK WITH THAT. BUT WHAT I WILL NEVER BE OK WITH IS, THAT THIS GROUP OF PEOPLE WILL REMAIN UNDER THE ASSUMPTION THAT BLACK PEOPLE OR ANY OTHER RACE WILL CONTINUE TO ALLOW THIS BOGUS CONTROL!! AS WE ALL CAN SEE THINGS ARE CHANGING, AND THINGS WILL CONTINUE TO CHANGE IN THIS COUNTRY IF MR OBAMA AND PEOPLE LIKE ME MAKE SURE THAT, THAT HAPPENS.THE CHANGE THAT I SPEAK OF, IS NOT TO EVER CONTROL ANOTHER RACE OF PEOPLE, OR TO EVER CONSIDER MYSELF OR MY RACE AS BETTER THAN OR ABOVE ANY OF GOD’S PEOPLE. THAT WOULD BE VERY WRONG!!! BUT INSTEAD, I WANT TO ENSURE THAT ALL PEOPLE ARE SEEN AS EQUAL.. ITS JUST TIME NOW!!! SEE THE DIFFERENCE. WE ARE ALL THE SAME.YOU MAY ASK, WHAT DOES ALL OF THIS HAVE TO DO WITH ANYTHING? WELL, YOU SAID THAT I SHOULD BE ANGRY, SO I AM!!!
What some fail to understand is that regardless of how much we care to celebrate our people and the struggles we have been through and continue to go through, they will be individuals who beleive that our celebrations have no merit. Just as there are some who will say the holocaust never happened there are people who will say that our daily struggles are all in our mind.
It is nice to say that we should create inclusive activities for all people but that means we have to, to a point, exclude who we are to be accepted int the “mainstream” (whatever that is).
I live in a neighborhood where when Latinos want to celebrate their freedom, the city helps them by closing down streets and redirecting traffic. All we want to do, as African-Americans, is celebrate our freedom in a park. A place where we won’t have to cause traffic problems as with all other Mpls. celebrations. That should be allowed. They only way the ‘mainstream” will accept us as a people is to allow us to co-exist. If they are concerned about negative issues then they need to remember that they do fireworks in that area all the time and the same people who will attend Juneteenth tend to be the same who wath the fireworks.
Whatever fear or racism is being expressed needs to be ended. This is 2009 and we have a bi-racial president. It te world can accept him, then it is past time for MN to accept the people of color living here.
